Developmental milestones: Rolling over at 4-month

It’s never easy watching your child struggle but at critical stages in their development, all you can do as parents is to watch and provide love and support.  I’ve been observing our 4-month old daughter Allison, try to roll over onto her back with little success due to her arm getting in the way.  She started with arm stretched out a few times but it was too painful (at times I thought it would snap under the pressure).

Then she attempted to roll over with arm along side but they didn’t work.  The breakthrough came when she was sucking on her fist; this was the closest she’d gotten to rolling over but the elbow still got in the way.  Finally tonight, she figured out that not only did she need to tuck in the arm but it had to go way underneath the body. Success!
